History Today: Northgate go to Belgium

BUTCHER

Back in the olden days (2003 to be precise) we were invited by Boerke Naas Folk Group to visit them in the delightful town of St Niklaas in Belgium, and what a splendid time we had. Only a few photos exist of this visit, but one does capture the moment we danced behind the counter in a butcher’s shop. Why? Because the mortuary was closed, of course. This is true.

Just out of shot it the sign saying, “Zwaard Dansers €10/Kg” which ensured careful dancing. Luckily, no one was hurt apart from Mike who lost his penis in the meat slicer.
